Frequently asked questions
-
Can you see my browsing history?
No. Browser Memory does not use Chrome's history permission. It only saves pages you close while the extension is installed — URL, title, scroll (when available), time on page, and optional highlighted text.
-
Does my data leave my device?
No. Captures stay in your browser only. The developer does not receive your browsing data during normal use.
-
Which tabs are remembered?
Normal http and https webpages you close or that Chrome discards (Memory Saver) while the extension is enabled. Chrome internal pages, New Tab, extension pages, and the Web Store are not captured.
-
Why was a tab not remembered?
Common reasons: the page was a restricted URL (chrome://, New Tab, extension page), onboarding was incomplete, or permissions were not granted. For normal https pages that repeatedly fail, contact support with the page type — not private content.
-
Does it work offline?
Yes. Capture and your Recently Remembered list work offline because everything is stored locally. Reopen needs network access to load the webpage.
-
Does it restore scroll position?
No. Reopen opens the URL in a new tab from the top. The capture card shows where you were reading; the page itself does not jump there.
-
Can I export everything?
Yes. Open extension Options → Export all → JSON file downloads to your device.
-
Can I delete everything?
Yes. Options → Delete all → confirm. This permanently removes captures from your device.
-
What permissions does it need?
Tabs (detect close/discard), storage (local saves), side panel (inbox UI), scripting and http/https page access (scroll and optional selection at close time). We do not request history, cookies, or passwords.
-
Is this a tab manager?
No. Tab managers organize tabs you still have open. Browser Memory is for tabs you have already closed — like Chrome's "Recently closed," but with reading context.
-
Does it work outside Chrome?
No. This beta is Chrome desktop only (version 114+). Not supported on mobile.
-
How do I report a problem?
Email karpinskiyivann@gmail.com with Chrome version, page type (e.g. GitHub, YouTube), what you expected, and a screenshot of the capture card if helpful — not private page content.
-
When does capture happen?
When you close a tab or Chrome discards it. Not continuously while you browse.
-
Is there analytics or tracking?
Not in the current beta build. If optional analytics are added later, the privacy policy will be updated.
-
Do I need an account?
No. No sign-in, no cloud account.
-
Is it free?
Yes during the closed beta. Pricing is undecided.
-
What are the toast notifications?
A brief "Saved locally" confirmation on an open webpage when a tab is captured. Shown for your first several closes, then at most once per day.
-
What is the note field?
An optional one-line reminder (up to 200 characters) you can add to a capture. Searchable later when the title alone is not enough.
