Browser Memory helps you close more tabs by remembering context locally — but it is not perfect memory. When in doubt, verify capture works for your typical sites before closing something critical.

What it does

Saves context when you close or Chrome discards a normal http/https webpage
Stores everything locally on your device
Shows captures in Recently Remembered with search and filters
Lets you reopen URLs, export JSON, or delete all data

What it does not do

Organize open tabs (not a tab manager)
Sync across devices or browsers
Restore scroll position or form state on reopen
Capture while a tab stays open
Guarantee intent or importance — context reconstruction only

Pages not captured

You will not get a warning on the closed tab. Open Recently Remembered to verify capture.

Content script limitations

Scroll, dwell, and selection are read from supported http/https pages at close time. If a content script is not active on a page (or the page is restricted), capture may be skipped or may include URL and title only.

After reloading the extension, refresh open webpages once (F5) so page context is collected correctly.

Scroll percentage

Often missing or misleading on:

YouTube, X/Twitter, Notion, and sites with internal scroll containers
Short pages where you did not scroll (may show 0%)
Long reads without scrolling the main document

When scroll is unreliable, the card shows Time on page and may note that scroll is unavailable on that site.

Reopen behavior

Reopen opens the URL in a new tab from the top. Login state depends on the site. Exact page state and scroll position are not restored.

Supported browsers

Chrome desktop version 114+ on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Not Firefox, Safari, or mobile.

Local storage and uninstall

Data stays in your Chrome profile until you delete it
Use Delete all in Options before uninstall if you want captures removed
Uninstalling the extension does not upload your data anywhere

Toast and side panel

Confirmation toasts appear on an active http(s) tab — not the tab you closed
First several captures show a toast; then at most one per day
If no normal webpage is open, you may not see a toast — capture may still succeed
Side panel should refresh when a capture is saved; reopen the panel if it does not

Rare issues

Duplicate entry if Chrome discards then closes the same tab
Tabs closed on restricted URLs fail silently by design
